An Interview With Vale: 70's Edition
' Blue is the warmest colour, the crisp scent of forgotten summers invading our personal space,
Red is the symbol of revolution and warfare, gunshots ringing in my ear,
Green is the taste of forgotten freedom, the Garden of Eden here no more,
White is the difference between good and evil, the perversion of nature a law unto itself,
In the hybrid world of colour there is hope, an allusion to a world once born'

Vale Speaks Out
Ana-Each year catwalks recycle trends from decades past. Why has the fashion industry chosen the 70's this season?
Vale-The 70s were a decade for extreme experimentation when it comes to fashion, it’s an endless source of ideas and inspiration. I think it’s natural that the fashion system keeps seeing the 70s as a golden age, there’s still so much to explore.
Ana-The 70's is synonymous with utility hues, platform boots and large flares but how has this transcended into the modern day? How have modern fashion icons updated the 70's trend to suit contemporary living?
Vale-Flares are back, but pants are not as dramatically flared as they were in the 70s. We have shoes that are comfortable, the sneakers trend that keeps rocking, for a woman living in a modern world - she likes to dare but also knows how to go from an office look to an evening look. The 70s iconic fashion pieces of clothing are now proposed in a more elegant and modern way, with great attention to details and in a less extreme version.
Ana-As a modern fashion icon you have interpreted the 70's trend and made it your own. Tell me Vale what is the inspiration behind your 70's inspired look?
Vale-I loved the idea of wearing a matching suit, and bold colors are often the key in my outfits. I loved the strong floral print, something you see me wearing also in other kind of looks. When I saw this suit - with one of my favorite color combos, blue and red - I thought it was really “mine” and decided to buy it straight away.
Ana-What makes your 70's ethos stand out from the rest of the fashion bloggers determined to mark their stamp on the blogging world?
Vale-I love to change my look and my 70s inspired outfit is colorful, fun, ironic, just like most of my looks are. I am always myself, but I love to travel in time with fashion. I am surely not a minimalistic person and it shows with my outfits - therefore, the 70s, the age of freedom, have a strong fascination on me. Add that I don’t like to take myself too seriously and that, in spite of me being quite shy - I will let people stare.
Ana- Tell us about your blog and why it is an integral platform for showcasing the hottest 70's designs.
Vale-Fashion and Cookies is my place where I show what I like to wear to the world. My looks are sometimes elegant, other times casual, bon ton and more on the rock side. 70s have been a decade of freedom, of self discovery, and my blog is a journey in my self discovery. I am always honest to my readers, showing them what I really wear in my everyday life. Seventies are a decade I love, for fashion and for the music. Fringes, suede, maxi skirt, flare pants…you name it, I got it, and there’s a lot to see yet.
Ana-Describe your personal style in a sentence
Vale-The key to my personal style is being feminine and eclectic. I am not afraid to dare.
Ana-In your opinion what is the blogging capital of the world and what opportunities will arise for the modern 70's icon?
Vale-New York is the blogging capital of the world in my opinion, some of my favorite bloggers are there and the city is so full of energy and it has an incredible mixture of cultures that make it the center of the world, but to tell you the truth, great blogging can occur even from a small, almost unknown town in any country of the world. This is the biggest opportunity the internet gave us: the world is our runaway, and we can influence, create trends from wherever we are. I didn’t write the town I am living in my blog for this purpose: is it that important ? I want to be a blogger with an international style, just like I love to take inspiration from bloggers all over the world.
Ana- Increasingly more young people are choosing blogging as their occupation of choice. Why do you think the younger generation are drawn to the 'blogger dream’?
Vale-Many young people think being a blogger means living a life of travels, parties, fashion events and wearing the best clothes and accessories. Surely, the younger generation finds social networks and all the new form of communication easier to use. They should just know that having success as a blogger is not easy and that it requires a lot of dedication, of time and passion and that success doesn’t come in one day. I encourage blogging as an outlet for creativity, if it can lead to a job why not ? But also I do encourage to keep studying, to keep learning, because nothing beats a good education and you are going to need it.
Ana-It has been a long day strutting the catwalk and you are desperate for some time to relax. How do you wind down?
Vale-I obviously love shopping, but when I am at home I love to watch my favorite tv series, to read a book or fashion magazines. I also love my workouts at the gym and feel very relaxed afterwards. Spending quality time with friends is another must.
Ana- Trends come and go but what trend do you predict will be big enough to topple the 70's next season?
Vale-I believe we’ll keep seeing mixes of prints and I also predict the return of a baroque-inspired style, also with a gothic touch. We’ll see !
