Six Way To Wear Sequins

Originating in Ancient Kot Diji culture, sequins were made from shiny metals as decoration on clothing or paraphernalia in the Indus Valley as early as 2500BC. Deriving from the French interpretation of the Italian word zecchino (gold coin) in the late medieval Venice, metal-based coins later evolved into its modern form which largely uses coloured or tinted plastic.Today sequins are used largely for decorative purposes although in some cultures sequins are still used as a status symbol of wealth, theft deterrent or/and a spiritual guide which dates back to ostentatious displays of wealth using sequins in Ancient Egypt, India and Peru.

With its roots in status and wealth, modern sequins are often associated with festive or seasonal wear, where the opulence of the season calls for an even more opulent dress. However despite its luxe label sequins are far more wearable than people may think and can be worn both night and day for a cool, futuristic take on the Ancient Trend.

1. The Era Mismatch

The era mis-matcher is someone who is playful yet inquisitive with a powerful sense of human identity and uses multi-texture overlay to assert her or his role as the master of all fashion eras. Despite its roots in 2016's renewed fascination with cyborg culture and its transmittance into everyday where the key to pulling off 'The Futuristic Dancer' is to keep silhouettes simple and elegant with only a pair of perspex white tinted sunglasses to hint that is a futuristic collaboration. Proving that futuristic looks can be both minimalist and disco friendly the sequin dress is paired with black denier tights and block platforms to create a simple futuristic party look without looking like a Cyborg.

3. The Cool Kid

The Cool Kid is nochlant and so is her attitude torwards fashion. Clashing faux fur with suede and multi-coloured sequins while colour-blocking is not a feat for the faint-hearted but if anyone can do it's The Cool Kid. Pair reflective sunglasses with a faux fur jacket, sequin mini and sequin vest to make the most of your summer and winter wardrobe by combining the two together. Unlike The Era Mismatcher the hybrid aesthetic of The Cool Kid is about clashing fabrics and textures rather than letting the faux fur and sequins compliment each other because it is the detatchment of fabrics rather than styles that makes The Cool Kid look stand out.

4. The Mermaid

The mermaid is glamorous and assured in her sexual identity with her aesthetic choices running parrelell to her sense of worth and increasing self-confidence. Drawing strength from her sexual identity the mermaid sashays into life with opulence and grace, with a breathtaking split elongating even the shortest of statures while the daring cut outs and tailored backless back of the gown revels in its wearers assured femininity. The bag uses ombre tones to feed off its rivals opulent vibe while the faux fur coat is slung over one shoulder to enhance the powerful stretching fingers.

5. The Vintage Mermaid

The Vintage Mermaid is inspired by the flirtatious glamour of the 50's but unlike its predecessor 'The Mermaid its aesthetic is demure yet coy rather than overtly flirtatious. The structure is boxy rather than fitted while the flaunted side split of The Mermaid remains composed and elegant. By reducing the split effect the bodycon is transformed into an irridescent sheath that would have not gone amiss in the 1920's love of Flapper, a-line silhouettes. The faux fur bolero adds to the vintage aesthetic and creates a luxurious contrast between the plushness of the faux fur and the scratchy almost erotic nature of the multi-tonal plastic sequin dress.

6. Casual Luxe

One of my favourite styles to curate, casual luxe mixes luxurious seperates such as sequins with basic timeless classics like waistcoats in this seasons it hue 'Khaki' making it infinitely wearable for any ocassion.
