Friday Lookbook: Primary Colour Challenge

When I began envisioning the Friday Lookbook feature I wondered what it would be like to go out of my comfort zone and transcend my personal boundaries through the medium of fashion. Which is why my Lookbook's are chosen by you the general public who have shown me a new world of fashion where rules cease to exist and all that is left is a playful vision of the clothing industry. Chosen by Kaz Dee from 'IcklePicklesLife' she suggested that I could try wearing primary colours: Red, Blue, Yellow and Green which was a challenge I was eager to try out. Previously the Friday Lookbook turned a more serious leaf as it explored how clothing can help us feel more confident in our skin and accept that no two people are the same. Using the Hashtag #BeautifulYou' I aimed to use each outfit to showcase a flaw and transform it into a body positive image and the response was wonderful catapaulting it into my Top Three Blog Posts this month. This week the primary colour lookbook is more light hearted and focuses on how colour can bring an element of fun to your aesthetic and proves that fashion does not have to follow particular trends to get you noticed. Although some of this weeks looks are definitely out of my comfort zone and different to what I would normally wear I enjoyed exploring the use of primary colours and challenging myself to step away from my 'safe, go-to' colours.

Monday

Inspired by Chiara Ferragni Spring/ Summer 2016 Shoe Collection's superhero aesthetic, I fused an eclectic mix of Chiarra Feggarorano's signature 'brights' with -insert name's preppy, geek chic look. The fusion of superhero colour-green vs yellow- offset with preppy offbeat layering is a huge contrast from my traditional Boho Riveria vibe but allowed me to discover that there are no limitations when it comes to combining colours. Layering a khaki blouse underneath the ribbed round neck mustard jumper created a 'popped' collar effect reminiscient of style icon-insert name- whose interpretation of androgyny took a whole new meaning, translating into my own look. The masculine upper half is balanced out by the 70's suede skirt whose feminine yet ultra cool aesthetic is synonmous with the image of the carefree 70s whose subversion of gender roles was seen as the norm. The superhero element comes into play through the clashing mustard and forest green which resembles none other than martial arts extraordanaire 'Iron Fist' whose yellow and green costume became the underlying basis for today's primary colour look. Part of the Marvel franchise Iron Fist may not be in the same league as the Avengers assemble but has a unique appreciation of opposing colours to create a colourblocked look

One of S/S 16's standout colours, candy apple red has been revamped this season. Mixing the sweetness of candy red with its more acidic-but complimentary- partner mustard yellow, the rainbow clash is the perfect accompaniment to a dreary winters day. Unlike Monday's superhero inspired ootd today's look was specifically curated as a transitional aesthetic that could transcend from office to nightime without needing to change. The red lace-up heels combined with the tomato-red blouse and mustard pencil split skirt are smart but differs from the traditional monochrome 'work look' and is probably my favourite out of this weeks 'primary collection'. The orange tinted sunglasses stop the outfit from looking too smart while the candy apple red side bag is ideal for fitting in all your travel essentials.

At the opposite side of the spectrum cobalt blue and candy apple red are the two colours that you least expect to compliment each other but somehow it creates a crisp, tailored yet shocking effect that brings a new meaning to tailored wear. Fusing retro perspex frames with rainbow tinted glasses and 80's bold brights, the office look has been injected with a dose of much needed colour. Unlike Tuesdays work look the 80's brights have been updated for the new season with a tailored rather than boxy silhouette synonmous with the image of the 'disco 80's'

Copying the 90's laid back aesthetic, the staple dungarees have been revamped to give it a preppy vibe. Using a colour blocked shirt layered underneath the dungarees, the deliberate fusion of 90s cool and 60's love of colourblocking has created the perfect ootd for walks exploring the finest street art London has to offer. The demin dungarees are offset by the tomato red collar while the amber sunglasses renews the don't care attitude of the dungarees. Dungarees were a popular wardrobe staple in the 70's and 90's and continues to rise and ebb in popularity in modern fashion culture.

A more sombre but nevertheless colourful affair, the coat with colourblocked layering creates a look that is perfect for looking stylish 'on the go'. As someone who spends 99.5 % of her time travelling, a pastel coverup is on trend while the red blouse and peep of mustard skirt compliments the double breasted tailored coat in a flattering hue of baby blue. Serenity was named one of Pantones colours of the year alongside Rose Quartz and has always been a favourite colour of mine. The tuxedo-esque duster jacket's lapels allow the candy apple red to add a touch of primary deliciousness while the split effect of the skirt mirrors the opening of the coats lapels.
