Valentines Day With Hazel & Kent
'Moonstruck dancers suspended in flight, the soft lilting lullaby of a music box in the background,
Liquid eyes melting in delight, dream hazed visions of a life beyond reality-LOVE,
Rustling skirts caught in the footstep of romance, bumbling men and women bashful in emotion,
As the clock strikes midnight the gold slipper is on the princesses foot,
Cheers throughout the land as she takes her curtain call,
True loves first kiss witnessed by the nation,
Children follow next, a babe in the cradle,
Three wise women watch on,
As the spell is broke and the reality is here,
The dancers stand still, frozen in time'
The timeless elegance of Hazel and Kent is irrefutable and embodies the true delicacy and grace of femininity. Classically beautiful the collection is reminiscient of the golden era of Hollywood where sophisticated film icons like Audrey Hepburn are injected into each individual piece. Drawing inspiration from traditional film icons each necklace holds the spiritual lyricism of a famous movie stars most iconic scenes; the silver topaz necklace is modelled on 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' old school Hollywood glamour while the repetition of silver statement necklaces, sterling and delicate silver embody the changing face of the jewellery industry. Fusing a delicate interlink between 'traditional' and modern jewellery, the sheer grace of Hazel and Grace is complimented by its more avante-garde offerings like the 'Kit Heath Silver Prism Braid Necklace' which delivers geometric sensibility.
Despite its more modern offerings it is Hazel and Kent's traditional collection that appealed to me the most with its delicate charm and home-spun elegance. The silver topaz necklace's light craftmanship and attention to detail is a refreshing cry from the souless manufacturers who mass produce homogenous necklaces to appeal to the masses and instead relies on its unique delicacy to appeal to its target audience. Featuring a small purple/pink topaz encased in a slim silver heart, the clash of pink against the silver is a metaphor for how opposites attract- you can't choose love it chooses you- while the fragile chain emblemizes love as a seed you must grow and nurture to become fully-fledged attraction. Pure yet romantic Hazel's idealistic representation of love may not reflect reality but for self-aclaimed idealists like myself it is a sweet dream to hold close to your chest.
As Part of TH Baker, Hazel & Kent's dream to fill us with happiness and love this Valentines Day is backed by over 125 years of experience, solving unhappy hearts since 1888 and it is a positive mission that Hazel & Kent hope to promote in modern culture. Unlike the tragic love stories shown in the media Hazel and Kent's utopian vision is centered around positive thinking and no matter whether you are single or taken this Valentines day their eponymous jewellery collection is suitable for all. As someone who is single this Valentines Day I wear my topaz pendant with pride and as a reminder that I need to learn to love myself before I can love others whereas those who are taken may present the necklace to their loved ones as a token of their undying love.
With pure intentions the necklace moves beyond emotions driven by lust and sensual desire and instead focuses on creating building blocks; relationships are to be built upon and this Valentines is about building unbreakable bridges with your loved one or making peace with yourself and that is a sentiment I hope to replicate this Valentines Day. Valentines day is not about buying into consumerism or validating how much you love your partner by re-compensating them with goods but a day where love knows no boundaries. So make like Hazel and Kent and spread some much needed love and positivity this Valentines day.
