Powder Review

'Blazing through the snow I am invincible, crisp winter air rustling through the empty trees,

Trudging through deep layers of snow the songbird trills, harsh guttural sounds signalling the beginning of spring, Golden sunrises replace bleak skies, clouds disappear into thin air, soft glowing sunlight like balm on chapped skin, peel back the layers and look into the light,

Nestled in the heart of spring lies Powder, take what's yours'

Founded in 2009 by 'jolly good pals' Lisa Beaumont and Lucas Nicholls the essence of colour and texture are at the forefront of luxe accessory specialist Powder's ethos. Fusing high quality luxe materials with an affordable high street price tag, Powder's curation of accessories fits a niche market. With an intimate collection of faux fur scarfs, hats and bags there is a certain je ne sais quoi about Powder's luxury items. The main inspiration behind the brand draws from vintage luxe; Gift bags are designed with the 60's psychedellic signature print and remain as an iconic motif for Power's vintage brand. Faux fur scarfs harp back to the Hollywood Glam Era the 50's which saw numerous style icons choose faux over real fur as awareness surrounding animal cruelty and ethical issues concerning fur trade came to light. The fusion and marriage of iconic vintage eras is part of what makes Powder stand out from the crowd and its audience may be niche but they can count me as one of their fans.

When Powder approached me to choose a product to shoot on my blog I was elated to be able to add to my faux fur collection and the salmon pink faux fur stole was the perfect addition. When it came to choosing a faux fur scarf I was stuck between a lilac aubergine, the salmon pink and a creamy beige all colours which I could see incoorperated into my wardrobe. When it came to it the salmon faux fur stole complete with an embellished statement bow brooch I felt was the most versatile out of the three. The Chamonix faux fur stole is made from premium satin lining and is 100 % polyester. The faux fur stole features Powders bespoke paisley design which adorns the stoles satin lining. The diamante brooch is interchangeable giving you the option to wear the stole with or without the brooch and when it comes to styling the scarf it is just as versatile.

The scarf is light and best used as a 'fashionable accessory' rather than a provider of warmth so if your ideal scarf is one that staves away the cold then Powder's stole is not for you. To me it is not a problem because quite often scarves are to accessorize my look rather than keep me warm and that is the beauty of choosing one of Powders scarves; no two scarves are the same and the range of faux fur and organic cotton based scarves is vast. To style the stole I chose to update the traditional expectations surrounding the styling of a pastel scarf and made it appropriate for a transitional spring/summer 2016 look where salmon, blush pink and ceramic pink were three shades of pink that stole the show. Keeping the look light and airy the stole was layered over a salmon turtleneck, baby pink crepe waistcoat, while a ceramic pink skort gave off the illusion of a co-ord. Finishing off the spring look was a pair of patent blush pink mesh heels that added edge while tinted blush sunglasses with perforated gold lens matched the delicate rose gold watch with a large clock face. Without the scarf the look would have still been striking but the faux fur stole adds much needed luxe appeal to the sports-casual aesthetic and marries brilliantly into the multi-tonal pink palate, proving that colourblocking within the same colour category is just as effective as implementing other hues.

Part of the reason why I was drawn to Powder's stole was of course the colour, salmon is a relative newcomer to the colour elite brigade and its cool fall undertones makes it the ideal base to highlight its blush accents. The fusion of crisp sweet salmon infused with the saccharine pastel makes it the ideal colour platter to buy into this season and makes a welcome change from the cooler colours worn in Autumn/ Winter. The unusual shade of pink is fresh and its sumptous satin lining complete with paisley imprint sets it apart from any other faux fur stole produced at the moment.
