Imperial Candles Are A Girls Best Friend
The saying goes that diamonds are a girl’s best friend but I am always one for turning allegories on their head. Ever since I was a young girl I was obsessed with candles and jewellery, dreaming of a day where I could combine the two passions together. I used to buy candles in their droves, (scented of course) to brighten up my room and bathe in its tranquil light. Passionfruit cordials and raspberry delights would waft invitingly underneath my nose, transporting me into my scented fantasy. Yankee Candles were often a favourite of mine, delicious winter warmers to stave off the cold and fresh tropical brights to welcome the brief linger of summer. Pinks, oranges and whites seemed to be the preferred candle hue, bringing warmth to a country famed for its volatile, often temperamental weather. But how on earth can jewellery be brought into all this talk of scented deliciousness? Well I will tell you, for every second candle I brought four necklaces would appear, plucked from the glorious trove of treasures I would find in every shop. From statement necklaces in brash shades of cobalt blue, magenta and turquoise to delicate rose gold creations, each necklace would glint invitingly from afar. I had this seemingly ludicrous idea that there was a way to combine jewellery and candles in one, like a Kinder Egg except for grownups. It would be the perfect business model I thought to myself but as I grew older my vision faded and I began to focus on more lucrative prospects. I had all but forgotten about my jewellery/candle obsession until I stumbled upon ‘Imperial Candles’ a handmade soy candle company who hides ‘jewels’ worth between £10-2000 in each candle.
So it came as a surprise to note that my ‘Kinder Egg’ vision was actually a fully- fledged business, who thrived on its ability to surprise and delight in equal measure. Flicking through Imperial Candles site was like a throwback to the past, passionfruit, blackcurrant and red berry candles reminded me of all the candles I had collected all over the years, while the prospect of finding a surprise inside each candle was a beautiful gift that just kept giving. I envisioned sapphire rings and rose quartz necklaces nestled in Imperial Candles bosom, while the indefinite scent of ‘fruit tropics’ and warming blackberry delights was an offer that proved difficult to resist. At £29.99 Imperial Candles is ‘pricey’ but when you take into account its luxurious glass design, prize hidden inside and the fact that each candle is ‘hand poured’ in the UK it is well worth its mid-market price tag. To top it off, each candle offers a burn time of up to 120 hours, meaning that your scented daydream need never stop.
After feasting on the scented delights before me, my attention turned to Imperial Candles Wild Passionfruit, an exotic blend of peaches, strawberries, pineapples, oranges and coconut. To offset the ‘fruit medley’ of summer fruits, Imperial Candle uses slight floral undertones and smooth musky vanilla background to balance out the passionfruit scent. As someone who is obsessed with fruity scents the infusion of summer fruits transported me onto a scene on the beach, sipping virgin mojitos, with the sun glazing me in its warming glow. The irony is of course that candles are quite often ‘typecast’ as being winter warmers, designed to stave off the cold when in actuality ‘summer candles’ are becoming ever popular, as the rise of social media sees mavens Instagram funky tropical candles. Even if you choose not to burn your candle, one swift sniff of its tropical scent delight will see you swoon in tropical euphoria. Verdict? Imperial Candles is a breathtaking celebration of scent production, innovative creativity and luxury goods all wrapped in one, heavily scented, bundle of joy. But the question is, is Imperial Candles A Girls Best Friend? Only time will tell my dear friend but for now, my passionfruit candle is the single most avid obsession I have in my life right now and if that is not testament to its evident glory then I don’t know what is.
