Perfect Eyebrows Part II
After the success of the first treatment, my six week retouch was due and I could not wait to see myself one step closer to achieving the perfect eyebrows. Having been teased as a child because I had excessive facial hair, I became obsessed with making myself look more ‘European’ and eyebrows were one of the first hair issues I addressed. Having my eyebrows threaded since the age of 16 has changed the entire structure of my face and although I like having my face threaded (Note I like the results but not the process itself) I was after a semi-permanent procedure that could also address my gappy eyebrows. Because I usually fill in my eyebrows with powder and a thin slanted brush it can completely change the way I look but nothing could have prepared me for microblading. In Perfect Eyebrows part I, my eyebrow procedure was complicated due to my immunity to anaesthetic but left me with eyebrows that all my friends coveted. Gradually over the course of five days post treatment, the itchiness was beginning to fade and the flaking became minimal and the colour pigment El’ had used had practically disappeared. After a week the slightly darker colour came back but was too natural for my liking so I asked El to use darker pigmentation to achieve the ‘dark’ movie star eyebrows I was given on the first treatment.
El explained that in order to achieve dark brows with the extra density throughout we needed to disregard the original ‘microblade super manual method’ and instead use a Nouveau Contour Machine which allows for dense and shading effects by using special pigment needles. The 'special pigment' needles places the pigment into the skin and subsequently filling up the undesired gaps between the strokes .Because a microblade slices through the skin to achieve more ‘natural, barely there brows’ the use of a Nouveau Contour Machine can be used to create more dramatic, dense but nevertheless beautiful, make-up ready brows. Unlike the first session I did not need to fill out paperwork as I had already filled out the necessary forms in the first treatment round. Instead El asked me a few questions about colour preferences and showed me what the colour would look like in comparison to the lighter brown pigment previously used. Using the arched frame measure to create perfect eyebrow symmetry I did not even need to tell El what shape or strokes I wanted because she could see the gentle strokes she had placed during the first treatment. I was suitably impressed and El explained that I had a good even upper brow section that was already symmetrical and made her job ten times easier. Once my eyebrows had been marked El used white pencil to mark the stray hairs that needed to be plucked and gently dabbed anesthetic over my brows to prepare them for treatment. Although they stung a little it was for a maximum of two minutes and made the plucking feel much better than without anesthetic. In between plucking El took several photos to use as ‘before and after’ shots for her portfolio and to demonstrate the difference between my eyebrows pre and post treatment in both phases.
I was then asked to lie down and El began preparing the needle by attaching it to the Nouveau Counter Pen which I must admit reminded me of a dentist’s drill. Still it was nothing to be scared about, El put me at ease and told me she would be as gentle but as quick as I can handle. As the first prick went in and out of my skin it created short bursts of dull pain but as the anesthetic began to work the pain became less noticeable. I was surprised and found that the Nouveau Contour Machine was a lot less painful than microblading and by the end of the first round on the right eyebrow, I found that the plucking and apply/wiping off the anesthetic stung more than the actual moving microblade. By the time the needle got to the tail of the eyebrow it stung momentarily more than it had the rest of my eyebrow but as El explained the sensitivity was due to the anesthetic wearing off. We then switched over to the left eyebrow and El teased my eyebrows in her thumbs to try and get me in the best position to shape the brows. I found the right side more painful than the left but again it was still less painful than microblading and I found myself relaxing and sinking into a dazed stance. I was not able to relax at all during the first treatment so the Nouveau Contour Machine had made my treatment far more tolerable second time around! By the second round the pain was barely noticeable and both brows were done in record time with little to no pain depending on the sensitivity of the eyebrows. All I felt was the strange scraping sensation but it was not overly unpleasant.
Towards the end of the second and last round, I found that the eyebrows were beginning to burn more but again that was due to anesthetic wearing off and the burning sensation only lasted five minutes. I was however feeling woozy and once my treatment had been completed and the aftercare was explained again like in the first treatment, I headed out to eat before my second job of the day. Appearance wise the skin around the eyebrows was sensitive with red patches but don’t be freaked out because this is perfectly normal and normally wears off within three hours like mine did. All in all I am very impressed with the welfare and care I had during El’s service and I would highly recommend her cosmetic and semi-permanent procedures.
